Charcoal Portrait Series

I am currently working on a series of South Asian Portraits. Through making these works I am seeking re-connection to parts of myself that have been fragmentmented as a result of war, racism and migration in my ancestral history. The Portraits are based on men and women in my life that I am connected to. A friend, members of my family, my mother. Myself. Qualities of ancestral clearing moving through me as I connect and create. These works are produced through the medium of charcoal which is reminiscent of fire, ashes and rebirth.
